MEET LORRaine

Lorraine Richards is a dedicated educator with a remarkable career spanning 29 years, deeply rooted in the Montebello community. A mother of two, she shares her life with her supportive husband and their beloved dog, bringing warmth and love to her family life. Lorraine is driven by the belief that empowering individuals with knowledge creates effective leaders who are capable of guiding future generations.

Her career in education has been extensive and varied. Lorraine has served as both an intermediate and high school teacher, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to student success across different age groups. Her leadership skills have shone through in various roles within her local education community, including President, Secretary, and High School Director. Additionally, she has taken on the responsibilities of Site Rep Chair and Site Rep, advocating for teachers and their needs.

Lorraine serves as an advisor to the YMCA Model Legislature and Court, where she plays a pivotal role in mentoring the next generation. She prepares young adults to understand and harness the impact they can make as they transition into adulthood.

On a state level, Lorraine has made significant contributions as the Service Center Chair and Vice Chair, as well as Treasurer. Her involvement in the California Teachers Association (CTA) includes being a member of the CTA ABC District L Committee and serving as the State Service Center Chair Committee Vice Chair. She has also acted as the CTA liaison to the California State Board of Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), bridging the gap between educators and policymakers.

Nationally, Lorraine has extended her influence as a member of the National Education Association (NEA) Board of Directors and the Senior Board of Directors. She has served as an NEA Representative Assembly Delegate and has contributed to the NEA Resolution Committee, reflecting her commitment to improving educational standards and policies at a broader level.

Through her various roles and responsibilities, Lorraine has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to education and advocacy, making her a respected figure in her community and beyond.
